No you perverted sexual freaks ( or fun people), this is not about sexo, but about the past three days of my active vida.
This Sunday, Sept. 15th was June's memorial.
People who had been part of her life in some way were there; also, people who had been affected by June in a direct or indirect way were there.
Beautiful is not a very descriptive word, but that's what comes to mind. There was a lot of pictures, video clips, and poems of June. Even Danny G. (the actor) came. Angela D. and Janice M. came. Old STPs from back in the days came. Ruth F. came. Cornelius E. came. Ronal T. came. Everyone came. Beto, Stephanie, Sheila 1, Sheila 2, Andrew, Ariel, Rob, Junichi (of course), Zoe, Soraya, Jim, Mike, Trevor, un xingo de gente came.
Just like she had wanted it. We gathered under the tree June planted 11 years ago. Poetry for the People. We were reminded that we are the ones we have been waiting for, that we should live our lives intensively, do not procrastinate on your existence/plans/work. To write with truth. To be angry, to complain, to act, to dream.
I wish the world would've been there so that the world could've been part of the communion and the collective strength that endures and builds through the memory of June and her work.
Y pues, hubo un lloradero. Llorar y lloray. Y que bonito fue todo. Sometimes I would just space out, not thinking about anything, y de repente, me entraban artas ganas de llorar, sin saber por que.
.......
On Monday I went to work. Have I told you guys that at Break The Cycle (my new job) we are doing orientation. We have been training the new interns. I like the people I work with.
Oh yea, 16 de Septiembre, day of Mexican independence. I did not planned anything for this day. The raza on campus did not invite me to read this time at the flor y canto. I been out of everything for a long time. With work, and family, and school, I don't have time to spend on student related activities. I figure that college students can take care of themselves, I need to only focus in the community work (I work at Malcolm X elementary) and if I can get paid for it, pues mejor.
Quetzalli is growing so fast. She says "papa...pa...papapapa.." I feel proud of her. I know she's not calling me necessarily, she's just playing with words. Mi poeta chiquita. Her name is a poem, "precious feathers from heaven/universe." I hope that names really do affect what type of person one becomes. My girl will become a free spirit, una artista, a rebel, xicana. Haber, time will tell. .........
Tuesday and Wednesday nothing much happened. I'm sick and had to miss work today. My throat is hurting, I can't swallow. But I'm the type of person that doesn't pay attention to sickness. The only reason I missed work was because I'm tired of waking up early and going to bed late. I'll keep doing my thing until I fall somewhere on the road. You know, June had cancer for more than 10 years, and she was able to write and do so much. Man, un piche sore throat que es. Nada!
GRE classes are a pain, expensive too! I'll start posting some of the vocabulary they give me, so that you do not have to pay so much. I'll post some of my notes. As long as I don't say with who I'm studying, I don't think it'll matter. So, I'll put up a section later.
(note to self: ponte las pinches pilas and post some of the poems I've been working on! guey.)
solo yo me puedo regañar, nadie más.
